Om utbildningen

Are you a campaigner or activist who wants to hold the powerful to account? Do you work for an NGO or charity and want to harness the potential of modern media for your cause? Do you want to learn how to conceive, design, conduct, deliver,and publish effective journalistic investigations? If you want to sharpen, deepen,and expand your journalistic skills, then apply to the one-year masters programme in Investigative Journalism (MIJ).

The one-year masters programme in Investigative Journalism provides a rich understanding of investigative journalism as a democratic phenomenon, plus the skills to conceive, design, conduct, deliver, and publish effective journalistic investigations in todays digital media environments. As a student of the programme, you will sharpen and expand your journalistic skills and develop the tools and understanding to use the potential of modern media.

The goal is to prepare you for a changing news business through optimizing knowledge and skills that are essential in this turbulent market (data-driven journalism and visualization, project management, entrepreneurship, cross-sectional partnerships) but also fundamental journalistic values and ethics. You will develop the skills to monitor transnational institutions, business, and politics. Although the program is aimed at those looking to improve their journalistic skills, it could also be useful for campaigners, activists, charities and anyone with an interest in holding the powerful to account.

The program consists of four compulsory courses of 15 credits. They are all campus-based and built on the students active involvement.
Term 1:
Investigative journalism in digital environments, 15 hec
Data journalism and visualization, 15 hec

Term 2:
Investigative journalism across borders, 15 hec
Masters thesis in investigative journalism, 15 hec; alternatively Masters project in investigative journalism, 15 hec

September 2, 2024 - June 8, 2025

March 15th 2024 - April 15th 2024

A Bachelor's degree of 180 credits or corresponding. Applicants must prove knowledge of English: English 6/English Course B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
