International Business, Bachelor's Degree Program (BScBA)

The Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration (BScBA) is an officially accredited university degree (180 ECTS credits) in Finland. The language of instruction is English.

The BScBA degree can be obtained in three years. Courses are offered in three-week modules, meeting three hours a day, five days a week. The intense modular format of the classes is designed to foster a dynamic interaction among students and professors.

The infusion of technology into the curriculum forms a strong core in the teaching and learning at HSE Mikkeli. Computer classrooms and laboratories, along with electronic databases, greatly facilitate student learning.

The learning environment in Mikkeli not only helps students develop a knowledge base and set of professional skills, it provides a firm foundation for advanced academic study (in Master's programs in Finland or abroad) or for entering the global marketplace. At the core of the learning environment is the curriculum, which provides a foundation in international business and concentrations in global business, business culture and communications, marketing, and management.

    Kostnader

Since higher education is funded by the state through the Ministry of Education, students enrolled in the regular degree programs (at least still during the academic year 2006-2007) in Finland have paid no tuition fees.

(Please notice that there has been discussion that this may change.) However, students have to pay for their books and other materials as well as hou-sing and living expenses. The minimum budget for a student for one month is 600-700 ? (incl. rent, food, transportation).

Student associations in Finland charge an annual membership fee (61,38 euros in 2006-2007), which is compulsory for university students who are studying for their Bachelor's or Master's degrees. It includes a health care contribution that entitles the students to inexpensi-ve health care services (the Finnish Student Health Service). In addition, some student dis-counts are available.

    Beskrivning
Mikkeli (www.mikkeli.fi) is a modern provincial and commercial center with 47,000 inhabitants. In the heart of the Finnish Lake District, Mikkeli is situated in the beautiful scenery of Lake Saimaa. Approximately 25,000 cottages can be found on the shores of Saimaa and 700 other lakes in the Mikkeli region. Summer activity is especially quite busy.

Mikkeli is home to a combination of active domestic and international businesses, institutions of higher education, and numerous cultural events. It can be reached in 2.5 hours by car or train from Helsinki. Mikkeli is situated at the crossroads of five highways; good connections to eastern, southern and central Finland offer many opportunities for travel.

    Boende S:t Michel

HSE Mikkeli works in collaboration with MOAS (the Mikkeli student housing organization), www.moas.fi, which provides apartments for students. In addition, the company rents apartments to others for temporary purposes, e.g. international students or researchers.

Most student apartments consist of single rooms and shared apartments within easy walking distance to the campus. A lot of students in Finland live in these shared apartments, which are cheaper and usually easier to get than private housing. A shared apartment is basically a big apartment where every student has his/her own room and a shared kitchen and bathroom.

It is recommended that foreign students look for hou¬sing through student housing organizations. It is recommended that foreign students coming to HSE Mikkeli apply for housing through MOAS, since arranging housing privately is likely to be more complicated and more expensive.
